To Guy and Melissa on the occasion of passing my Basic Keelboat Sailing 101 AND Basic Coastal Cruising 103 certifications AND actually enjoying it.
That a-ha! moment that occurred on a late spring afternoon in the salon of a certain Alameda sailing vessel in the heart of this most unsuspecting person has quite impossibly grown, multiplied, flowered, morphed into a completely new view of the world.
The 70% of the earth covered by saltwater has miraculously come into focus.
That magnificent meteorological force called wind has been unleashed.
And I, Simone, am becoming a sailor (fears, warts and all).
And when I ask myself how this improbable turnabout could happen, I recall that afternoon when I climbed down into the salon of that Alameda sailing vessel and Guy began the session with:
